Roy Campanella of the old Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team, and one of the finest to ever play the game, was left paralyzed by an automobile accident in 1958. As he lay recovering in the hospital a mother brought her young son to see him and ask if he would sign her son's baseball. Campanella, in the depths of depression declined, saying that his hand shook so bad the boy probably wouldn't be able to read it. The little boy said, "That's O.K., Mr. Campanella, I'm blind anyway." Roy Campanella said… that was the day he stopped feeling sorry for himself.

All we need do is look around and see those struck down by debilitating diseases, accidents, or our recovering warriors who never give up; who grow in spite of the hand dealt them.

There on the table side by side; the Holy Bible and the TV Guide. One is well worn but cherished with pride…not the Bible, but the TV Guide. One is used daily to help folks decide…No! It isn't the Bible; it's the TV Guide. As pages are turned what shall they see? Oh, what does it matter, turn on that TV. So they open the book in which they confide…No, not the Bible, it's the TV Guide. The Word of God is seldom read, perhaps a verse as they... fall into bed. Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be, not from reading the Bible, but (chuckle here) watching TV. So, then back to the table, side by side, the Holy Bible and the TV Guide. No time for prayer, no time for the Word; the plan for salvation is... seldom heard. Forgiveness of sin so full and free… is found in the Bible, not on TV!

A wise business leader once said that - he would rather be respected than liked. "To be respected is necessary," he said, "to be liked is a social pleasantry."

We are all in leadership positions in some capacity; it might be at work or as a chairperson, or as a parent. Those we seek cooperation from will fall into one of three categories: Allies…Fence Sitters… or Enemies.

Allies and enemies are easy to identify, but it's the Fence Sitters that prove challenging for they are mercurial or expedient. They are "fair weather friends" at best and will fall on the side of the fence they feel will best serve their own interests and needs.

The idea is to develop Allies; know who the Fence Sitters are, and try to avoid, or at least, have détente with your adversaries.

I was thinking, I could run an ad in any Newspaper in America offering the opportunity of sharing a lunch with either Bill Gates or Donald Trump, and I would be inundated with responses from people wanting to probe the mind of one of these two smart men. Yet, all the knowledge and wisdom in the universe can be found in the # 1 best selling book since it was first published and released in…1611

Grove Patterson, Editor of the old Toledo Blade newspaper, once said, "I don't believe the creator of the Universe built a stairway to the stars leading noware." People go to and fro bustling about heaping up wealth, not knowing who will get it. We can buy the Owner's manual containing a wealth of knowledge at any book store for an investment of a few measly dollars.

Have you ever noticed how good things seem to happen to certain people… and other people, good, hard working people, never seem to reach the top of their mountain.

No closer at sixty than they were in their thirties in achieving their purpose in life… they seem destined to die terminally confused or - frustrated about life. Why? How does it happen? One reason is conformity. Doing what everyone else is doing! If you see the masses heading in a certain direction, you can almost rest assured that you should be heading the opposite direction, for the masses are almost always wrong.

We tend to confuse success as significance. Success is determined by many as Status, Money, or Fame. Significance is determined by reaching your potential as a human being.
